As Spring switches gears into Summer, Athens heats up with the annual amalgam of mostly family friendly music, arts and film festival functionally known as AthFest. The three day festival, June 20 through 24, offers two outdoor stages stacked with local bands and a few from Atlanta. These shows are free and feature must-see stand-outs including Atlas Sound, Reptar, Elf Power, Yacht Rock Review, Soulphonics and Ruby Velle, The Glands and Five Eight.
For only $20, you can buy a wristband that allows you entrance to an array of venues with additional great lineups. The festival incorporates venues and clubs throughout downtown – Georgia Theatre, 40 Watt Club, Ciné, Farm 255, Go Bar, etc – with bands ranging from Twin Tigers, Lera Lynn, Super Cluster, The Gold Party and DJ Twin Towers. Proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit the AthFest Educates! program, which supports music and arts in schools.
This festival is always a great time, and for the price, you cannot beat the lineup offered here. If nothing else, kids get further access to music and arts. Win-win. Wristbands can be purchased online and more information, including schedules, can be found on Athfest’s site.
